The short version

Smart Home Under earns a small commission when you buy a product through one of our links. This costs you nothing extra — the price is the same whether you click our link or go directly to Amazon. The commission helps fund the site and keeps us testing new gear.

Our recommendations don't change based on commission rates. The cheap winners on our lists actually earn us less than the premium alternatives would — and we still recommend the cheap winners.

Amazon Associates

Smart Home Under is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.

Links marked with “Check the price on Amazon” or “Buy on Amazon” are affiliate links. They include a tracking tag (fezbizz1301-20) that identifies us as the referrer so Amazon can credit us with a commission if you make a purchase.

How it affects our recommendations

It doesn't. Here's why we're confident saying that:

• We test or research every product before recommending it. Products we wouldn't buy ourselves don't make the list.
• Amazon's commission rates are category-based, not product-based. A Kasa plug and a more expensive Lutron plug earn the same percentage — so recommending the cheaper one costs us money, not earns us more.
• We flag products we've returned, products that failed early, and products that looked good on paper but didn't hold up. Those don't earn us anything, but they're useful to readers.

FTC compliance

The Federal Trade Commission requires that we disclose any material connection to products we recommend. This page, along with the disclosure notice on every review, fulfills that requirement.

We also display a disclosure at the top of every review article that contains affiliate links, so you're never more than one scroll away from knowing how we make money on that page.
